Pakistan beat West Indies by 8 wickets in their opening match of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 at Canberra.

PTV Sports telecast the match live.Earlier, West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor won the toss and elected to bat first. Batting first West Indies women scored 124 runs for the loss seven wickets in allotted 20 overs.

West Indies lost opener Hayley Matthews on the first ball when she was LBW out off Diana Baig. West Indies lost three wickets on 28 when Diana Baig got wicket off lee Ann Kirby while Nida Dar struck Deandra Dottin. Skipper Stafanie Taylor and Shemaine Campbelle added 63 runs stand for the fourth wicket.

Campbelle remained top scorer with 43 off 36 balls. She hit two sixes and two fours. Taylor also made 43 with the help of two sixes and two fours. For Pakistan women, Diana Baig, Aiman Anwar and Nida Dar took two wickets each. Anam Amin grabbed one wicket. In reply Pakistan women achieved the 125-run target for the loss of two wickets in 18.2 overs.

Openers provide brilliant start to Pakistan. Muneeba Ali and Javeria Khan added 58 runs stand for the first wicket in just 7.2 overs. Javeria Khan hit quick-fire 35 off 28 deliveries. She smashed six fours in her innings. Pakistan lost first wicket on 58 when Javeria LBW out of Taylor.

Muneeba scored 25 runs with the help of three boundaries before Fletcher got her wicket. After losing two wickets on 77, skipper Bismah Maroof and Nida Dar added unbeaten stand of 50 runs for the third wicket. Bismah remained top scorer with unbeaten 39 off 37 balls. She hit four boundaries in her not out knock.

Nida Dar made 18 not out. For West Indies, Fletcher and Taylor took one wicket each. Javeria Khan was declared player of the match. Pakistan will now face England in their next match on Friday.
